Gastric impaction in the horse is a disease characterized by persistent or progressive accumulation of dehydrated ingesta in the stomach. Causes of primary gastric impactions are the ingestion of swelling feed material as well as an inadequate water intake. There are reports from human medicine and from equines on gastric impaction after the ingestion of persimmons. A possible therapy for these impactions is the lavage of the stomach with Coca-Cola via a nasogastric tube or a transendoscopic injection directly into the bezoar.
